4 Days Ago the murders increased ten-fold.…
3 Days Ago the President addressed the nation and begged for calm and peace.…
2 Days Ago the killers began to mobilize.…
Yesterday all the power went out.…

Fast-paced, easy to read. Pretty relentless through most of the story, with some breathing room here and there. A little coincidence-y toward the end, but an enjoyable enough read that it didn't bother me much.

Gripping. Intense. Captivating. This one held me spellbound. While I read, reality fell away and I existed only in those pages with those characters. Five stars aren't enough. I'd like to give this one ten.Truly, there are no words I can write to do this book justice. Characters, plot, writing style, pacing - all of it, perfection.

What a horrific book. It was good yet very disturbing. I recommend you read this book but with this warning, it is very graphic and you will be horrified.

I just love this guy's writing style. Whether it's Dark Matter, the Pines Trilogy, or Run, his books hook me and leave me at the edge of my seat for damn near the whole run. If you like any of his other works, thrillers with interesting premises, or enjoyed "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy but wanted it to be more thrilling than bleak then you will enjoy this book too.

Thrilling, fast paced, interesting concept, executed well. Great narration. Read the Pines trilogy, recursion and dark matter by this author. They’re exceptional. For fans of Michael Crichton.

Great listen. I couldn't put it down, I listen in one day. Love the characters and the storylines. The concept of the story was really captivating to my imagination. Well written, excellent quality narration and an all round great book. Loved it!

This isn't Crouch's fault at all but I think I accidentally overdosed on his book. It was my third book in a row where there was an apocalypse or pandemic and then one group of people are now trying to survive in a world that is out to kill or eat them. And to make it worse on myself, I started the year with three zombie novels. Again, not Crouch's fault because I really did like his spin on the end of the world.Jack has a home with his wife and two kids in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It's not the best of situations as he has been sleeping in the guest room for a while. Life for Jack, and everyone in the United States, goes under a drastic change. Unexpected violence is occurring all over with innocent people being unexpectedly slaughtered. Then the Emergency Broadcast System comes on and reads Jack's name as a target for people to go kill. Jack and his family go on the run to find safety and escape the madness. One of the things that I liked about the story was that an explanation for the madness was provided. And it had enough of a bend to it that it made sense. People were the villains, not zombies. It could also substitute in for any perceived madness in today's world: religion, politics, lifestyles. Anything where one group of people so violently disagree with another group that death seems almost reasonable. Definitely something with which today's pandemic and political world can associate. One thing that I did not like about the book was there were a few too many last minute saves. People looking for food or shelter and about to give up and die when suddenly over that last hill, there's salvation. And maybe this is due to my overdose of apocalypses but I did get tired of it. I liked most of the characters but for whatever reason, the son bugged me. He had his useful moments but he was someone that I disliked almost from the point that we met him. Overall, the book was good and had a clever twist on the end of the world story. I suggest a genre switch of a ghost story or psycho killer story before starting this one.

The book starts off with a bang. It was very intense and scary but the characters and the plot just wasn't interesting enough for me to enjoy. It delivered on the scares though, but It wasn't enough for me to get through the book

If this is how your kids act then you need to sit them down and have a real talk. Way to much time wasted explaining every little detail to the kids. Reasoning with children during in this type of situation is just silly.

This one of the best books I've read in a while. I thought I had the original notion that this guy is a cross between Cormac McCarthy and Stephen King, but apparently it is apt comparison that has been made before. This book is pure adrenaline from start to finish. You will read it in one day, so don't start in the evening, or before a project, or at all if you have a heart condition. Use as a coffee substitute. Take a moment along the way to take in the richness behind the thrills. This books makes you think if you can take yourself for a moment out of the intensity of it all.

Many people have a problem with Crouch's stilted half sentences. I take it for what it is, just the author's style. With that being said, this was one of my favorite books of the past five years.

The plot is unlike anything else I've ever read. Crouch is brutal and unapologetic in this book. The scenery is always changing and you never know where you'll end up next.

I've heard complaints from people that some of the last minute rescues in the story got on their nerves. I didn't mind so much. Crouch had my disbelief suspended enough to where I didn't mind. This is one of those stories where anything goes. My favorite kind.

Violent, thrilling, a nonstop thrill ride. I will definitely read "Run" again when I need a kick in the pants.

The story...terrific. Basically a thought out play by play of what a real suburban family would do in when the world ends. Exciting, fast, realistic.
BUT...the narration...even before I looked up Phil Gigante and found out pleading guilty to sexually accosting a minor...I thought "god this guy does NOT like women." Every time a woman spoke, it was a panicked whiny demanding falsetto. The character of Dee was a mother and a doctor. She was not written weak and squirrley, but Gigante's interpretation of her was excruciating hard to listen to. Also Gigante's style of narration is *snap fingers in wide arc* "SELLIN' TO THE BACK SEATS!!" booming urgent melodramatic. Listen to more Crouch...everything I've read of his is great. Just don't let Gigante read it to you. Or anything else.

I have really got to stop reading Blake for a while. I know I have at least two more of his books beyond Abandon and Run. As always, Run is excellent. What can I say? Amazing. Be prepared to run... a lot! The reason is spooky and clear, plus it's also well-grounded. Blake is a wonderful writer.

While I didn't completely understand WHY the horrible murder rampage started, I did understand the reaction / actions of the Colclough family to escape this nightmare. The family starts in Albuquerque and attempts to head north to Canada, avoiding the highways and trying to find a safe place which hasn't been infected. This is not a zombie attack (which everyone seems to be writing about currently). This is another type of infection which turns most of the population into brutal killers.

As I read about them driving north, and then walking for days at a time, with little or no food or water - - - I wondered how I would survive, or would I just give up???

Unlike most stories, I didn't feel this one had any slow spots - - - it was nonstop. A story of a family literally running for their lives. The only thing that was missing from the story was a better explanation of WHY "the event" triggered everyone to become wildly murderous. Maybe it's from all the forensic / CSI-type shows where every detail of the murder is examined and explained. I'm used to excessive detail.

This was some story. I was expecting a different sort of story I suppose but I wasn't completely disappointed. I was disappointed with some parts of the story.First of all, the beginning is a bit misleading. At least in my opinion. Secondly, the story begins rapidly and that can be a good thing. I liked how frantic the characters were. The hard parts of this story were in how much the story jumped time frames. Sometimes we only get to read small snippets of information before we're thrust into a completely different time frame. Sometimes the paragraphs threw me off. I was disappointed in the ending. I wanted more. A better explanation. Something more clear cut and dry.

Run by Blake Crouch immerses the reader in a dystopian US society, where a large portion of the population suddenly begins to kill other people after viewing a cosmic event. The experience changed those people into murderous maniacs that are compelled to kill all people who did not witness the event and were not affected by it. The crazed killers can recognize those who were not changed by the event, and they work together to kill them all, even their neighbors, friends, and family members. The book focuses on a family of four that is forced to flee their home and their city to try to survive. However, they discover that they are not safe anywhere. They are repeatedly savage attacks and forced to endure incredible hardship, physical pain, exhaustion, starvation, and terror. It seems that there is no haven for them anywhere. This story is an incredibly-violent and painfully-suspenseful thriller, which elicits a hopeless feeling for the reader who emphasizes with the characters. It is not for the fainthearted, but it does entice the stoic reader to rebound and speed through the text after enduring each malicious blow. It’s is exciting novel and I believe I will read more Blake Crouch novels, but not until after a sufficient period of recovery.

What a story! Talk about being swept along by the action! This was a great novel, kind of unlike anything I have ever read before. A uniqueness that I appreciated. The story is of a virus that take over the Americas, and the struggle to survive by the hero and his family. From page one, your pulse is racing, and it never stops until the end. There is not a lot of depth to this novel, or even stellar prose, though the writer is quite accomplished at creating a sense of suspense. There is not a lot of character depth except for the main protagonist, but the other main characters are well enough defined to carry the story. I found some portions of the novel a bit disjointed, but only a bit, again, not enough to derail the story for me. Overall, an interesting book and one I might never have picked up, just happened upon. I am glad I read it. If you want a quick, suspenseful novel, this is just the ticket. It is an enjoyable read!

Run by Blake Crouch is an excellent, fast paced, edge-of-your-seat action novel. The book description sums it up perfectly (summarized below):5 D A Y S A G O...A rash of bizarre murders swept the country…Senseless. Brutal. Seemingly unconnected. 4 D A Y S A G O...The murders increased ten-fold…3 D A Y S A G O...The President addressed the nation and begged for calm and peace…2 D A Y S A G O...The killers began to mobilize…Y E S T E R D A Y...All the power went out…T O N I G H T...They’re reading the names of those to be killed on the Emergency Broadcast System. You are listening over the battery-powered radio on your kitchen table, and they’ve just read yours. Your name is Jack Colclough. You have a wife, a daughter, and a young son. You live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. People are coming to your house to kill you and your family. You don’t know why, but you don’t have time to think about that any more. You only have time to….R U N. This fast pace is maintained throughout the novel. It never stops until the end. What is not in the summary is how good the character development is. Jack, a distant and somewhat ineffective person, narrates most of the story. The reader feels his desperation and fear, and is along for the ride as he first panics and runs, but then starts to think, and plan, and work out how to protect his family. His sincerity and progression into a toughened, effective father and husband is great to watch, particularly against the backdrop of all the action that is occurring. It makes the book satisfying on a number of levels. I found the book difficult to put down and will most definitely be looking for more of Mr. Crouch's work. Recommended.

Short thriller of the Stephen King variety: a bad thing happens to the world, and a nuclear family (mother having an affair and, usefully, working as a doctor; father undefined at the beginning; resentful teen daughter; traumatized young son) has to survive. Something has changed many of the residents of the United States so that they organize to kill anyone who isn’t like them—a little on the nose there, even if a chunk of Mexico and part of Canada are included in the effect. The mechanics are a little wobbly—sometimes the affected group seems to enjoy torture (including, it’s strongly suggested, rape) but sometimes they just seem to want to kill the unaffected efficiently. There’s a more significant plot hole related to who’s affected that would be spoilery, and the ideas espoused by one character at the end about the point of the whole thing are absolutely appalling; it would have been smarter to follow King and really leave matters unexplained, or offer a bunch of competing ideas. But the thrill of the book is in the flight from the affected and the fight against the elements (and each other) as the family struggles to survive with only themselves—and, initially, their expensive and well-kited-out camping equipment—to rely on.

Epic {n}: an episode in the lives of men in which heroic deeds are performed or attemptedDon’t look into the light…..but if you didn’t…..RUN!Good thing the kid was in school and the house was reasonably clean, and my work was caught up..I wasn’t getting to anything else until I finished.RUN is more than a horror/thriller story, it’s what happens to a family when all hell has broken loose in their environment. Some people are affected by the lights and others aren’t..the unaffected are the ones who need to run and run fast. The Colclough family: Dee, Jack, and their two children, Cole and Naomi, are the center of this epic story. They are the unaffected and the story opens with them packing up everything to flee whatever is happening and find a safe haven somewhere, somehow. Finding out what they have inside them to keep on going, finding out what exactly makes them a stronger family. And what they have inside that makes them do whatever it takes to protect each other and survive.RUN is intense and I found myself involved with the Colcloughs and all that they experienced. I read the book quickly, in less than a day, which is, for me and an 80,000 word thriller, damn fast. Five sparkly damn fast diamonds……
