About this audiobook

Samantha Willan is a workaholic lawyer. She's grateful for some rest and relaxation in cottage country, and after a recent breakup she wants to stay as far away from romance as possible. Then she meets her irresistible new neighbor. There's something strange and mysterious about his eyes. Is it just her imagination, or are they locked on her neck?

Garrett Mortimer is a rogue hunter. His last assignment united Lucian Argeneau with his lifemate, and Mortimer is hoping this one will be less . . . adventurous. He's here to track down a reported rogue, but fun in the sun is every bloodsucker's nightmare. Worse, he can't seem to get his mind off Samantha, especially when he spies her skinny-dipping in the lake. After eight hundred years as a bachelor, is he ready to turn a volatile attraction into a lasting love affair?

The Story: Mortimer is a bit disappointed when he finds he can’t read the thoughts of Sam, one of the three sister’s next door. He had always pictured his life mate as more of the Jessica Rabbit type, not the Olive Oyl type. Sam was tall and slender with small breasts and long dark hair and she is a hopeless clutz. Though Mortimer knows that a life mate doesn’t come around very often so decides he will spend his time there getting to know Sam.

The book was told mostly from Mortimer’s point of view and narrated by Rick Robertson who is a very adept reader with a pleasing voice. Though he does’t really do a bunch of different voices for different characters like some narrators.

I didn’t like the side storyline as much in this book as in most. This book focused more on the romance between Mortimer and Sam than in the hunt for the rogue vampire. There was no real villain like in many of the other books and every time things started to build up to something, there was a reasonable explanation in the end.

I almost would give it 3 stars but it did have more fun than some of the others. Still it lacked the chase and excitement of some of the others. Still I never think Lynsay Sands does the chase well anyway- I read these for the laughs. Still the name suggests Rogue vamps and there really was none, so be prepared for a straight romance.

Found the characters of Sam and Mortimer to be very relatable, which was nice, I did read her sisters stories before this one on another app and liked their stories more interesting but this was nice too.

I’ve got to admit, I love vampire fiction but this is one I’d never have picked up for myself, I’m horrible when it comes to judging a book by its cover, and this one looks like something my mother-in-law would read! BUT, in all fairness, it was fun :) If you’re looking for something interesting to add to your vampire lore collection, then no…..but if you just fancy curling up with a 30- something lawyer falling in love with an 800 yr old vamp…you’re all set. There’s no literary value whatsoever to the book, but it’s well written enough to keep you flicking through the pages painlessly, and in terms of a quick bit of entertainment it’s fine. It’s a long way down the series I think, but works perfectly well as a standalone.Going by the blurb on the back you can pretty much ignore the cool sounding stuff about a rogue vampire needing to be tracked down, that part of the storyline is totally pushed aside by the romance aspect, and given a hurried cop out conclusion in the last few pages, so if that’s what would make you pick this one up, put it back down. Still, it passed a happy snowed-in couple of hours for me, and as long as no one saw me I’d be quite happy to read more from Sands in the future. This one gets a “what the hell, daft but fun” 3 out of 5.

Lynsay sands has come up with another great book. I really liked this book. I liked the plot, all the characters, I liked how she guided me through the whole book. She is one of my favorite authors for the paranormal. Whatever she writes I seem to like. I enjoy the way she puts together her plot. You can't go wrong with any of her books as far as I am concerned. This book is about sisters going on vacation and quite unexpectadly there happens to be vampires living next door. They don't realize it of course but the one vampire Mortimer sure notices the one sister Samantha. This book has some great funny moments in it and it was just an enjoyable read. I recommend it for those who like a good paranormal read.

Do you enjoy humor with your hot vamp heroes? If so, you should give Lynsay Sands vamp series a try. Her latest in this series is "The Rogue Hunter" and stars yet another brooding, sexy vampire who finds his mate.Samantha is a hard-charging young lawyer, burning her way up the ladder, trying to make partner at her prestigious law firm. When her sisters finally guilt her into taking their annual lake vacation, she gives in only to get sucked up into the disappearance of the spoiled daughter of one of her firm's most important clients. ?Luckily? another lake visitor is determined to provide assistance...and he's quite the hottie!Mortimer (don't you love that name?) is over 800 years old. He hunts rogue vampires who feed off humans and risk exposure to the whole vampire community. When rumors of a possible rogue bring him to the lake where Sam and her sisters vacation, he's shocked to find that he can't 'read' Sam, and he's suddenly hungry for food, and he's suddenly really, really interested in sex...but only with Sam. Since all these are signs of meeting his lifemate, you'd think Mort would be happy. Well, not right away. She's just not quite what he had in mind when he imagined his lifemate. But the more time he spends with Sam, the more his hungers grow...for food, for her, and for her blood. Mort is hilarious. Reading about a staid, boring, tired of food/sex/life vampire trying to rationalize his feelings had me in stitches. This is a total 'feel good' read. There's no real danger, no competing males (or females), and lots of hot tension and good sex. I liked it!

Samantha Willan has been convinced to leave her job as a successful lawyer behind for a while and to take a break with her sisters. After a nasty breakup with her childhood sweetheart she needs a break. She's sworn off men but there's something about the man visiting her neighbour, Garrett Mortimer, that she finds attractive, maybe he can help her break her rut. Garrett Mortimer is finding himself strangely attracted to Samantha, it appears she's his lifemate, but does he really want to complicate his immortal life like this? I liked the two characters and their resolution of their dilemmas. The ending kinda took me by surprise on one level but on another I liked it very much, it wasn't the easy solution but it was a good solution for them both.

With this book you really get what you see. Despite its being called Rogue Hunters, the action is pushed aside for the romance you see on the cover. I liked that Samantha wasn't perfect. She's kind of awkward, and Garrett realizes that right away, but it's not an immediate, inexplicable turn-on for him. He's very honest with his desire for curvy, sexy women and how she's simply not. It added a very real dynamic to the story. That aside, there were still some cheesy parts, but what else do you expect from a paranormal romance? You get what you see.

What nonsense did I just read? I mean really, what was this supposed to be? What it was was boring and basically a failure as both a PNR and a decent mystery.

Let me start with the fact that all of the characters are paper thin—no significant history, no real emotional depth, no obvious beliefs or thoughts outside of the immediate. In fact, for most of the book the side characters just went off by themselves and left the H & h alone. So, why bother with them?

There was also almost no world-building. What little there was, explaining vampires, came at about page 300! This is probably because the book is labeled as "The Rogue Hunter (Argeneau #10) (Rogue Hunter #1)." Someone tell me what that is supposed to mean. Is it the tenth Argeneau book or the first Rogue Hunter book? Because after reading it, I'm 100% certain it can't be both. While I could follow the plot, it was always painfully apparent I was missing something. The world-building, as stated, wasn't there. Probably because it was in the 9 previous books. People were referenced that the reader didn't know, I strongly suspect Mort was a side character form another book, etc. So, as a 10th Argeneau book, it might have been successful (I don't know as I read it as the first Rogue Hunter book), but as a first in a series, it's a failure.

Now let me address the mystery around the rogue that Mortimer is supposed to be hunting. This investigation literally takes up about 20 pages of this 373-page book and then it's solved with anti-climatic aplomb. Let's be honest, Sands didn't set out to write about a rogue vampire and the hunters who go after it. It is just the device used to get the two characters in the same place at the same time. Disappointing to the extreme. I'd have preferred the man to have just been on vacation and Sands not to even bothered with the half-assed attempt she made at pretending this book is anything other than a romance (which is pretty sad because the romance is pretty weak too).

The romance? CHEESY! There is the cliché immediate recognition of one's life mate (that somehow turns the tough, broody Mort into a bumbling social throwback), the fragile female in need of assistance with, you know, walking, stupid antics to get around telling the truth, the convenient ability to change people's mind if they ask inconvenient questions (thereby negating any possible narrative tension), and true immortal love and loyalty developing in a mere two weeks. What's more, the whole book is essentially a tease. Over and over Sam and Mort almost have sex, but don't quite manage it. Redundant...and PREDICTABLE!

This book is little more than a collection of weak PNR tropes, and none of them were executed particularly well. But worse than any of that, is the fact that I was bored for 373 pages. This sort of book is the epitome of why I refused to read romance for 30 years of my life. I'm in no hurry to read another Lynsay Sands book. How the heck does dreck like this get published over some of the great indies I've read?
