I was not comfortable with this book as a child. I couldn't figure out if there were or were not bears on the mountain and it confused me. I did like the resourcefulness of hiding under the big pot.

The voice actor on this reading was hit and miss for me. But the overall storyline hooked my 4 year old! We often quote lines from this book in our daily lives, it’s so cute. Would recommend!

Jonathan's mother sends him over the mountain to borrow a stew pot from his aunt . . . but what if there are bears? This very short story has a similar feel to the Little House books. I think beginning readers just making the jump to chapter books would still enjoy it. Older readers will find it too simplistic.

Age Appropriateness: IntermediateGenre: Realistic FictionReview: This is a good example of realistic fiction, because people encounter bears in real life.Comments: - Talk about the setting of this book, many kids if they are from the city may not understand what a farmhouse is like. - Use words from the book for vocab - Discuss what students should do if they saw a bear in real life.Media: Ink
