About this audiobook

Sorry. The single word was written on a mirror. In front of it hung the Minneapolis Internal Affairs cop. Was it suicide? Or a kinky act turned tragic?

Either way, it wasn’t murder. At least not according to the powers that be. But veteran homicide detective Sam Kovac and his wisecracking, ambitious partner Nikki Liska think differently. Together they begin to dig at the too-neat edges of the young cop’s death, uncovering one motive and one suspect after another. The shadows of suspicion fall not only on the city’s elite, but into the very heart of the police department.

Someone wants the case closed–quickly and forever. But neither Kovac nor Liska will give up. Now both their careers and their lives are on the line. From a murder case two months old to another case closed for twenty years, Kovac and Liska must unearth a connection the killer wants dead and buried. A killer who will stop at absolutely nothing to keep a dark and shattering secret . . .

It is quite entertaining reading this I have the work of Heather Graham very exciting and engaging. Although for this I have altogether a different option. Maybe it is because it is the first time I am reading this and did not follow completely or something does not like the Heather Graham I know.
The best method to enable the reader to get anything out of this book is to imagine that you are watching one of those cheesy, terrible movies on the Syfy channel. There, now you don't want to put your head through a plate glass while reading this book. My biggest problems with this book are the completely 2-dimensional characters and the dialogue that is not believable at all. Many of the characters aren't consistent, which I guess would be a very human trait as I don't know anybody that has 1 single patter and never wavers, but I felt as if I don't know any of the characters at all after reading this book. And don't get me started on the inconsistencies in actual life in Los Angeles compared to how it's portrayed in this book. I got the impression that the author either has never been to LA or visited once or twice and wrote based on a few superficial opinions. I'm not giving too much away by saying that an earthquake occurred, and everybody reacted in a way that is not believable.
Not to get all personal about the author or anything, but this example does not give me any confidence that I would enjoy anything that she has ever written, and I'm actually baffled by how she became a bestselling author. This book reads like a superb high school creative writing project. If I was an 11th grade English teacher, I'd probably give the project an A, as I'm sure it's grammatically correct, and it is a creative idea (that's the 2nd star, the 1st one is just for the effort... I'm sure novel writing isn't easy, which is why I don't do it.), but this book just completely falls so very short.
I listened to the audiobook, and the readers were terrible and probably would have made me hate Gone With The Wind.

When Scott rescues a man from attackers little does he know that this will change his life forever. He describes it as the day he Became. Now he's stronger and he feels different, as if there is something he needs to do.After an earthquake he finds himself alied with Melanie Regan and they're attracted to each other. They have to search for an evil and defeat it. 2012 is approaching rapidly and the two of them and a companion Rainier are symbolic of Earth and have to work together to defeat a demon trying to work his evil ways. It's pretty cliched and honestly the inclusion of good vampires almost felt like the author felt a need to use existing and established characters for a new concept, instead of creating a new series. I gobbled it up in a few sittings and really enjoyed it. It kept me reading but I think it could have been a better book if it had involved new characters and moved away from the vampires.

This story catches the reader's attention immediately as the story unfolds and the forces of evil are pitted against the good people who attempt to save the world.Scott Bryant and Melanie Regan are two normal people in L.A. they both make a decision to help when situations develop and gangs are taking advantage of weaker foes. Scott and Melanie are both amazed as they receive a power that makes them powerful and more observant. There is something about the bravery of these characters that is refreshing and draws the reader to them. They make the choice to help others and we can see the forces of evil in the form of skeletons that are coming to life and darkness is threatening. The story was well into the middle before the main action began and the book reminded me of Stephen King's "The Stand," Scott and Melanie follow a spiritual summons to Rome and Sister Maria Elizabeth. In "The Stand," Mother Abigail is the leader of the good suvivors and like Sister Maria Elizabeth, has the ability to see beyond the present. The characters are interesting and fully developed and the plot is clever and believable.

I typically enjoy Heather Graham's books for a quick (no thought required) read. The beginning of this book showed some promise. The plot looked fairly solid (even though the "Superman Saves the World" stuff is a bit overdone), the character sketches were drawn to intrigue and she had some smart elements (she even mentions Valhalla in the beginning). From this point the story just went down hill. She relied too much upon the overdone, and used current popular literature as a crutch. She had a demonic plot to destroy the world and combined it with the saviors (who are selected people representing the 12 signs of the Zodiac as well as the four elements) and then she brought in the Vampires (and this is where she lost me). She didn't need them; her book could have worked (and worked better) without them. Suddenly, (in the last third of the book) she reveals some of the main characters to be vampires and instead of regular people representing the Zodiac you have some vampires mixed with regulars and suddenly the nun (who was a very interesting character as the oracle) is also being replaced by a vampire. You have vampire fights and vampire captures and it just becomes too complex (in the way that she brought in what was not needed). The story morphs into just another book with a vampire identity. It is really too bad. I won't be keeping up with this series and it was really so bad that she might not be writing a book two.

I loooove end of days tales. This one seemed a little predictable. To sum it up: I don't know if I will read the next book in this series.

"Not long ago Scott Bryant would have described himself as an ordinary guy. But one act of heroism has changed his life forever- or at least until the next apocalypse occurs."I picked this book up because I like Heather Graham. It's action packed, taking the main characters all over in their quest to stop an apocalypse from occuring. The characters were good, the storyline was good. But I just feel like...'blah, blah another common vampire book'. Hello Buffy.
