About this audiobook

A cold-blooded kidnapper has been playing a twisted game with a terrified Minnesota town. Now a respected member of the community stands accused of a horrific act of evil. But when a second boy disappears, a frightened public demands to know: Have the police caught the wrong man? Is the nightmare continuing—or just beginning?

Prosecutor Ellen North believes she's building a case against a guilty man—and that he has an accomplice in the shadows. As she prepares for the trial of her career, Ellen suddenly finds herself swept into a cruel contest of twisted wits, a dark dance of life and death . . . with an evil mind as guilty as sin.

This book is an immediate follow on from night sins it untangled and answers all the questions from the first book this one too had an unrealistic love angle but I guess that's just the authors signature, unessasary in my opinion but there it is. The last few chapters are riveting and you won't see the twist...all in all I recommend it

Guilty as Sin is another tense thriller from Tami Hoag. This, the second book in the Deer Lake series, continues the story started in Night Sins. The man suspected in the kidnapping that occurred in the first book is in jail awaiting trial and a second boy is kidnapped. This event, and subsequent events throw doubt on the guilt of the jailed suspect. Meanwhile the original kidnap victim is home but is so adversely affected by the ordeal that he is unable to identify his captors. Although many of the characters from the first book return, the heroine and hero of this book are new: Ellen North, the prosecuting attorney, and Jay Brooks, a famous real crime writer who plans to write about the case. I really enjoyed this book. I especially enjoyed the strong, intelligent female characters, Ellen, Hannah (mother of the first kidnap victim) and Megan (BCA agent, heroine of Night Sins). And of course Jay and Mitch (the police chief, hero of Night Sins) are compelling characters as well.

Really awful. Cheesy, unrealistic and a “hero” who stalks and harasses the other main character despite her repeated rebuffs of his advances. I’ve tried to like her books but they’re all like this. Icky and cringey,

The overall plot is interesting, but the characters are boring and flat. The author overuses a lot of words and phrases, such as "her gaze sharpened, he gave her a narrow look"...etc. The narration for Jay Butler Brooks was absolutely awful. And the romance between Ellen and Jay and Mitch and Megan was ridiculous and unbelievable. Definitely too wordy and overdone. This book could easily have been combined with the previous one, if the author didn't have diarrhea of the keyboard. I was hard pressed to finish it.

I didn't know until I came to write my review on GoodReads that this novel is a sequel to "Night Sins." I read "Guilty As Sin" as a stand-alone. I enjoyed the novel and at first anticipated giving a rating of 4 stars. However as I continued turning the pages some of the subplots definitely dragged and sometimes in a tedious manner...one in particular is the repetition of mind analysis of characters Ellen North and Jay Butler Brooks of why they are drawn to one another and if they should commit to being in each other's lives for either the length of the case and/or something more permanent. It's a shame an editor didn't advise melting some pages away. Even in the cold landscape of a Minnesota winter the snow eventually melts.

Guilty as Sin picks up right where Night Sins leaves off. However, instead of continuing the focus on the Kirkwood family and the law enforcement officers trying to find the child, Guilty as Sin focuses on Ellen North, an Assistant County Prosecutor who is trying to put Dr. Garrett Wright away for this heinous crime. The ending is a page-turner and the last 50 pages will be read quickly. You'll hold your breath hoping you've sensed the outcome correctly. And you won't be disappointed.

Not as compelling as Night Sins. The author was able to sustain the suspense and the overall aura of evil that pervades the previous book. The characters aren't as interesting and multi-faceted either. However, it was still a good solid enjoyable read.

A public defender in Minnesota is trying to process a kidnapping and murder. She has her person and the defense is good and the person gets released. This person and his team are trying to pin the crimes on someone else and almost succeed.

Initially, too many characters introduced, so I didn't know cops from lawyers, but I was soon gripped by the dogged persistence of Ellen North to see that justice was done.It was rather wordy in places but that didn't put me off too much as the characters came into their own during the story.Very good
