How we will live together

continues from page 3

‘Architecture is the tool that can make the difference’ said Hashim Sarkis, who curated and evaluated the 115 projects from all over the world that responded to the question “How will we live together?’, at the inauguration of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition this year. ‘The pandemic will come and go, but phenomena like climate change, migratory flows and inequality will not vanish unless they are addressed’ added the Libyan architect. If you have not yet visited the exhibition, you have until 21 November to do so. One installation not be missed is Ego to Eco by the Danish firm Effekt Architects, which shows how we can use resources better to live, build, produce and consume through seven projects on display at the Corderie dell’Arsenale. Nowadays, sustainability seems to be the mantra of international architects, as can be seen on the pages of magazines and in this issue. Without doubt, one example of harmony with nature is the project by the MYGG studio in Milan which they built in the Alassio hills, a villa projected towards infinity. Another work of art deep in the Mediterranean scrub is a villa constructed by the French firm AW2 in Corsica. Natural materials such as stone, wood and glass have been used by the architect Jorge Biblioni to create an exclusive residence in Palma de Mallorca. Modern decor also tends to be inspired by nature, as interior designer Massimo Decimo has done in an apartment in Naples and in a trullo with a lamia - a vaulted ceiling - in Ostuni by interior designer Gian Paolo Guerra. Lastly, to appreciate luxury in nature, you should stay ‘in the new Harrods suite in the Cala di Volpe hotel which’ says manager Franco Mulas, ‘is like enjoying the Costa Smeralda from a helicopter.’ Indeed, this month’s Ville&Casali reportage is dedicated to the on-the-rise Costa Smeralda, where many innovations in both property redevelopment and in gastronomy and spas are emerging for an increasingly international clientele. August shouldn’t normally be the month when an has decided to highlight five exclusive projects built by architects. And these are not the only innovations presented in this issue, as can be see from the property showcase.
