When Hailee Steinfeld scored an Oscar nomination for True Grit, her very first movie, at age 14, people warned her of big changes ahead. But 10 years later she says they were wrong: “Nothing in my life, in fact, has changed—other than my schedule!”

That schedule has been impressively jam-packed. Steinfeld, 24, has appeared in megahits (the sequels) and) alike—and launched a pop music career with hits like “Love Myself” and “Starving.” Now she’s starring in season 2 of the Apple TV+ series and Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series When the coronavirus pandemic shut down the entertainment industry last year, she was able to press pause and look inward after years at a breakneck pace. “I’ve learned to appreciate being still, being in one place and being with people I love,” says Steinfeld. “This is the first time I’ve spent this amount of time with my family since I was very young, and I’ve really enjoyed that. And there’s been a lot of time and space to learn and grow as an individual. I am constantly reminded how fortunate I am. I feel so lucky that I get to do what I love.
