TEA AND A CHAT

“It gives you the same serotonin hit that a shopping trip does.”

There are already enough clothes in the world for everybody many times over – fact. And while I love clothes, with people, and being known as a crochet designer, it made sense to see if I could use the art of crochet to start that conversation and see where the journey would take us. Crochet hacking became a way to showcase the incredibly transformative power of not only crochet, but any craft for sustainability. I’m not just talking about repairing and mending though. That definitely has its place, but I’m talking about changing something you already own or have found second-hand, and something that gives you the same serotonin hit that a high street shopping trip does, but with all the satisfaction of having made it yourself. Crochet is great for this kind of remaking – you can lengthen a sleeve by cutting it in half and adding a row of rainbow stripes, make holes in the edge of denim and work crochet directly into it, or cut a tee in half and add a crochet section to make a drawstring dress. The possibilities are endless! Working out how to use crochet in this way, then developing the tecÙiques and has proved to be endlessly inspiring. The more I do and the more people share, the more ideas I have. It really has become a way of life for me now.
