TARGET: BAIKAL
rom 1868 to 1945 the Imperial Japanese Army produced (“maps of outer lands”). The U.S. Army seized them during the Allied occupation of Japan at the end of World War II. This section of a 1944 map of southeast Siberia shows cities and transportation routes around Lake Baikal, marks sites with fuel tanks and military matériel, and even includes data about the thickness of ice at different times of the year.
