THE mark of a true gardener is discovering that, four years on from moving into a new home—when the house is still waiting to be decorated—the borders are burgeoning, and not simply looking good, but good enough to open for charity. Petra and Luke Hoyer Millar are not professional horticulturalists, nor have they had any help with designing or making the garden at Castle End—so called because it backs on to the motte-and-bailey remains of Deddington Castle—but what they have achieved is a garden of real distinction.
