Your happiness prescription

On a scale of one to 10, how happy are you today? Being permanently upbeat is unattainable–especially with the backdrop of health fears, losses, employment uncertainty and isolation–but anything below seven suggests there’s scope for work to be done.

A complex formula of genes, behaviour traits and individual life circumstances determine our happiness levels–and there’s nothing like a global pandemic to shake our feel-good foundations. However, according to experts, it’s entirely possible to ‘think ourselves happy’ despite other influences. In fact, psychology professor Sonja Lyubomirsky* believes as much as 40% of our happiness is down to our state of mind.
