• 3m (3⅜yd) brick red print fabric (background)
• 25cm (¼yd) each of 10 solid/near-solid fabrics (feathers, borders and binding)
• 10cm (⅛yd) yellow-green print fabric (centre star)
• 3.6m (4yd) backing fabric
• Batting at least 175cm (68in) square
• 4in Drunkard’s Path acrylic template set or template plastic and permanent-marking pen to make your own
• Threads to match the applique fabrics or in a neutral colour
• Freezer paper
• Light cardboard
• Large sheets of paper
• White chalk pencil (optional)
• Spray starch
• Perle 8 quilting threads, needles, quilting hoop and thimble
• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
• Sewing machine with ¼in foot
• General sewing supplies
Note: Foundation piecing is used in this project and the instructions assume a good working knowledge of this technique. Sew all the foundation-piecing seams with a short stitch length to make it easier to remove the papers without affecting the stitching.
