Materials
• 70cm (¾yd) light-value print fabric (applique background)
• Fat quarter red geometric print fabric (basket)
• 13cm (5in) square of feature print fabric (basket embellishment)
• Fat quarter green stripe print fabric (flower stems)
• Assorted fabric scraps in greens and pinks printed with leaf and flower motifs for Broderie perse (leaves and flowers)
• 15cm (¼yd) each of 12 lowvolume print fabrics (Pickle block backgrounds)
• Assorted scraps in a variety of print fabrics, each at least 13cm (5in)
square and some up to 30cm (12in) square (Pickle block spikes and block corners)
• Fat eighths of 12 print fabrics (Pickle block centres)
• 1.5m (1¾yd) large-scale print fabric (left, right and top borders)
• 35cm (⅜yd) coordinating large-scale print fabric (bottom border)
• 55cm (⅝yd) dark-value print fabric (border scallops and circles)
• 1m (1⅛yd) solid black fabric (binding)
• 3.2m (3½yd) backing fabric
• Batting at least 155cm (61in) square
• Applique threads to match the fabrics
• Fusible web
• Freezer paper
• Paper for foundations
• Light cardboard
• Spray starch
• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
• Sewing machine with ¼in and open-toe feet
• General sewing supplies
Note: Foundation piecing is used in this project and the instructions assume a good working knowledge of this technique. Sew all the foundation-piecing seams with a short stitch length to make it easier to remove the papers without affecting the stitching.
