Go! Drive & Camp

Three weeks in northern Namibia

When they got the idea of touring the north of Namibia, Jeannie and Henri Venter of Halfmanshof just outside Porterville didn’t wait very long. They scoured the internet and eventually decided to travel with Live the Journey to the concession area in the Skeleton Coast and Kaokoland.

They booked their spot on the tour a year in advance, but the tour dates happened to be during the school term. Jeannie and Henri decided it would be good to have a holiday without the kids. Fortunately, grandparents were more than willing to help with the kids and their busy school programmes. Jeannie tells us all about their trip.

“We started enjoying the planning of what we’d do before and after the Live the Journey tour so much that we finally planned a three-week trip around it. We decided to drive through Etosha and Damaraland and then end at Swakopmund before leaving for the Skeleton Coast with our tour group on the Sunday.

Our friends Schalk and Elsa Burger from Kakamas joined us. They also left their kids with the grandparents. Our children are lucky to have such wonderful grandparents!

We left home on 8 May with our Toyota Hilux 2.8 GD-6 4x4 Raider and our Bush Lapa Vlooi. We met the Burgers in Mariental and spent the first night at the River Chalets in town – it was great to catch up on a year’s worth of chatting.

From Mariental, we drove to Windhoek to buy meat at while shopping. With our freezers full of meat and delicacies, we hit the road again.
