Curves Without Curves – The ‘Slight’ Rectangle

Curves are the domain of women and, generally, the body characteristic creating most problems for the home sewer. However, for a small percentage of women the lack of curves on the figure is equally problematic. While the average home sewer makes their own garment because of fit problems related to excess curves, the ‘slight’ rectangle has the opposite concern – the lack of curves to fill out the garment design.

Measuring the body

While in your underwear, measure in inches across the width of your shoulders, waist and hipline (or thighs if wider than hips), do not measure the circumference of these body parts. To simplify measuring the waist, tie a ribbon or twill tape at the exact location of this body part. Once you have these three separate measurements in inches, divide each by 2.5.
