Predators in the night
The bright Dog Star Sirius was above the mountains in the west. The moon had not yet risen and the Milky Way was stretched out overhead with the Southern Cross slightly to the south-east. I switched the headlamp onto the soft red light-emitting diode as I headed out on that starry night. Foxes were my quarry and perhaps a feral cat. The sudden split-second streak of a shooting star was a good omen.
The dull red glow provided just enough light to see where I was placing my feet but not enough to frighten any animals as I slowly walked through the first paddock. There were four roos chewing grass about 100 paces off to my front right when 1020 lumens lit up the night from my rifle mounted Seal.
