DIVAS DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES
If you were one of the many millions who loved Whitney Houston, don’t miss THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL, a tribute to the late diva starring South African-born, internationally acclaimed songstress Belinda Davids. Now in its seventh year, the show is presented by Showtime Australia and includes a full orchestra and band, dancers and spectacular choreography. It won rave reviews in Johannesburg in 2013, as well as in the UK, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Israel and the USA, and is scheduled to tour Scandinavia as well. The world’s already familiar with local Afro-fusion supergroup Freshlyground and (from the isiXhosa, ‘), at Cape Town’s Baxter Theatre from 20-23 November. Combining singing with traditional storytelling, she recounts her childhood and coming of age in an Eastern Cape township. She’ll be performing hits by some of the legendary artists she’s sung with (including Stevie Wonder, BB King, Oliver Mtukudzi, Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin). Tickets are R120 from Webtickets.
