aradise is a much overused word these days, but we are not exaggerating when we say that Lord Howe Island is just that, paradise. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed island is just 700 kilometres north-west of Sydney, but a world away from the everyday. Its staggeringly blue waters lap wide beaches; fish crowd around your feet when you step into the water; turtles frolic in the shallows; and the lush, hulking mass of Mount Gower dominates the horizon, its peak often shrouded in a crown of wispy white cloud.
