A staggering amount of our leftover food and garden waste is consigned to landfill. It’s a major source of methane emissions. Although the government doesn’t collect statistics on the amount of food waste sent to landfills, it’s estimated that New Zealand’s 1.4 million families waste more food than all the country’s cafés, restaurants and supermarkets.
