Nimue Smit is a model with a conscience. Even before we meet on a leafy street in Westbourne Grove, close to her west London flat, she has scanned the local cafes for availability, one being too loud, another too busy, and so on. When she finally finds somewhere suitable, she WhatsApps us the location.

Nim (as she is known) waves from across the restaurant, but you can’t miss her perched at the bar: she’s model tall with wide-set eyes and even features; on closer inspection you can’t help but notice her teeth that are each perfectly spaced – accentuated by her perpetual smile.

She’s wearing head-to-toe black: some “really old” Zara boots, second-hand Uniqlo shorts, a French fisherman’s cap – a gift from her grandad, which he gave her because she’s so difficult to buy for – and a Jaeger jacket that is one of her many charity shop finds.

“The act of discovery with second-hand purchases makes you so much more attached to things,” she affirms. “I love old charity shops in London. Especially around the more affluent areas, because people don’t wear things too long before giving them away. And I’m happy
