I am utterly knackered, so much so that the simple task of getting my pack off my back and taking out my camera looms like a Sisyphean task. The temperature has dropped well below zero degrees, and gale-force gusts strafe the desolate slopes of Karisimbi. So much for that ‘little walk up a hill’ we envisaged, I think as I slump down behind a lichen-stained rock to wait for the rest of our trekking party.
