Deer & Deer Hunting


Despite my acrophobia there does exist a tree I climb without complaint. It’s a beast of a tree, a towering hemlock in which I constructed a treestand more than two decades ago. My stands are strictly DIY, a self-design allowing me to sidestep those ghastly tiny aluminum jobs that I cannot believe humans willingly stand up on.

Mine is a trustworthy design, all comprised of rugged treated lumber. Two vertical supports are leveled and lagged securely onto opposite sides of a tree and tied together by a rigid cross piece screwed down into precisely measured notches to forbid horizontal shifting.
