Destination: DEER CAMP
I’ve been doing this for a long time. I have hunted deer longer than some, though I’m by no means an old-timer. Just ask me. I have friends who have been at this decades longer than I have. I’ve never claimed to be an expert. Deer hunting is too much fun and I don’t want to ruin it with the pressure of having to exhibit expertise. I do, however, think I’ve earned the rank of veteran, at least. I’ve been chasing deer for the better part of 30 years, so this is not a new experience for me. Don’t call me jaded though. I’m not. Since that first hunt in 1987, there is not much in life that excites me like the night before the opening day of gun season for white-tailed deer.
During these 30-odd years, that has not changed one bit. The excitement is there, ever-present. Maybe even more present during the past few years. Hitting the mid-century mark makes you appreciate the gift of time and its fleeting nature. I appreciate and acknowledge the passing of time more than ever these days.
