Deer & Deer Hunting


Under our feet, the cut cornfield was stamped, every inch it seemed, with deer tracks. Between the abundant cover of the riverbanks and the plentiful, expansive crop fields above them, the area is a deer Mecca. Though the walk from the trucks to our perch above the riverbank was a short one, the journey from the first day of the regular gun season to the last was a long, winding and — for me — difficult one this year.

My personal deer season consisted of a blown chance at a very nice buck who, on opening weekend, spotted me before I spotted him as I walked in. Game over before the game had even begun.
