THE BIG ONE

he Transpac turns 50 this year, and more than 100 crews will be contesting the classic race that starts in Los Angeles and is favored for line honors, but the win could go to any one of a score of hot boats. The first of three starts is on July 10, and if the breeze cooperates the first crews could be donning leis and knocking back champagne by the 17th.
