INTERMITTENT FASTING

For centuries, different religions have used fasting as a way to become more spiritually engaged, to atone, or as part of cultural practices. The Western world is now using fasting for physical gains too. The benefits of fasting may come from allowing the body a break from insulin, and giving it a cycle of stress and recovery to improve.

Laura May Janse Van Rensburg is a qualified dietician in Durban with a specialisation in sports nutrition. She has a passion for sports and plant-based nutrition and owns CrossFit RIED gym in Musgrave. We asked her about the relationship between intermittent fasting and fitness.
