What happens in Bali
Each year thousands of Australians head to to Bali for its tropical climate, pristine beaches, friendly culture, and party scene.
One thing missing, however, is the specialty coffee Australians have come to expect from their homeland. That was, of course, until Shae Macnamara – an ASCA coffee champion – decided to make the holiday island his home.
“I saw a huge opportunity for growth in Bali,” says Shae. “It has a huge population, attracts thousands of expats, and has an established coffee culture. But I wanted to bring specialty coffee to the masses.”
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in 2016 Indonesia was recorded as having the strongest growth of Australian short-term resident departures over the past decade. With more than 10,000 Australians estimated to be living in Bali, Shae says the timing to make his mark on an Indonesian hot spot couldn’t have been better.
