Measure twice, cut once


• Large assortment of print fabrics in brown, beige, blue, green and teal to total about 4m (4 1/2yd) (blocks and Border 2). Vicki used fat quarters, but smaller cuts are also viable
• 25cm ( 1/4yd) teal tone-on-tone print fabric (Border 1)
• 70cm ( 3/4yd) beige print fabric (blocks and Border 2) – Vicki used a fabric with sewing motifs printed on it

• 50cm ( 1/2yd) solid cream fabric (stitcheries)
• 50cm ( 1/2yd) brown tone-on-tone print fabric (binding)
• 3.3m (3 5/8yd) backing fabric
• Batting at least 170 x 165cm (66 x 64in)
• Iron-on interfacing, such as Whisper Weft (stitcheries)
• Dark brown stranded embroidery cotton (stitcheries) – Vicki used DMC Black Brown (3371)
• Small embroidery hoop (optional)

• Fine-tip permanent-marking pen
• Lightbox (optional)
• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
• Sewing machine with 1/4in, walking and darning feet
• General sewing supplies

Stitches used: Chain stitch, colonial or French knot, running stitch

Finished size: 151 x 146cm (59 1/2 x 57 1/2in)

Finished block sizes: 9in, 8in, 6in and 3in square

Note: Read all the instructions before starting the project. It is recommended that fabrics be 100% cotton, pre-washed and well ironed. Requirements are based on fabric 107cm (42in) wide. Seam allowances of /4in are used except where otherwise noted. Instructions are given for using the printed Pattern Sheet in the magazine, but you can also download the digital patterns from  and print them out.


1 From the teal tone-on-tone print fabric, cut:

• Five strips, 1 1/2in across the width of the fabric (Border 1).

2 From the beige print fabric, cut:

• Four strips, 4 1/2in across the width of the fabric (Border 2).

3 From a light brown print fabric from your assortment, cut:

• Four squares, 1
