ADVERTISING HAS ONE REAL purpose: to sell goods and services. Even so, it’s surprising how many ads don’t focus on what the consumer wants when he or she buys a car or cereal or cellphone.
That’s perhaps why a campaign from the hairstylist has resonated for so long. The ads, which were hard to miss in the ’80s and ’90s, promoted products that carried the Sassoon name. “If you don’t look good,” a slogan and jingle proclaimed, “we don’t look good.”
