Afghanistan Strategy: President Trump unveiled his plan to extend the war in Afghanistan without a timeline for withdrawing U.S. troops. (Read his complete address here.) The plan departs from Trump’s previous calls to withdraw from the war, but as James Fallows writes, it’s remarkably similar to the strategies offered by his predecessors. It also doesn’t include that would help America’s military . Trump may be correcting past mistakes with his effort to for harboring terrorist organizations—but changing the country’s policies . And in some ways, argues David Frum, the speech seemed designed more to than to address the challenges of the long-running war.
